Clinical Case: Endodontic Treatment with Excalibur® by Zarc by Dr. Ricardo Cardona

In endodontic practice, every case presents its own challenges and peculiarities. Today, we’d like to share a clinical case by Dr. Ricardo Cardona, in which the Excalibur®  system by Zarc was used to address a complex endodontic situation in a 90-year-old patient.

Clinical case

The patient presented with a delicate situation: a previously treated tooth showing issues of underfilling and underextension in the mesial roots, along with overfilling and gutta-percha extrusion in the distal root. Additionally, the patient was experiencing symptomatic apical periodontitis.

This was further complicated by the presence of a removable prosthetic abutment that the patient wished to keep. Given the scenario, a retreatment of the affected tooth was proposed, followed by reconstruction and crown placement.

Excalibur® by Zarc: A Revolution in Reciprocating Files

To tackle this challenge, Dr. Cardona chose to use Excalibur® by Zarc—a single-file reciprocating system known for its conservative approach, speed, and ease of use. Designed to adapt to all types of dental anatomy, Excalibur® stands out for its accessibility and suitability for specialists of all experience levels.r utilizar Excalibur® de Zarc, un sistema de instrumentación reciprocante de lima única, conocido por su enfoque conservador, rapidez y facilidad de uso. Diseñado para adaptarse a cualquier tipo de anatomía dental, Excalibur® se destaca por su accesibilidad y adecuación para especialistas de todos los niveles de experiencia.

In this specific case, Excalibur E25 files were used for the mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals, while the E45 was used for the distal canal. This selection allowed for precise and conservative canal preparation, minimizing the removal of healthy dental tissue.

For obturation, Zarc’s latest-generation bioceramics were used: NeoSealerFlo® for the mesial canals and Neoputty® for the distal canal. These materials offer significant advantages in terms of biocompatibility, heat resistance, and dimensional stability, contributing to effective and long-lasting obturation.
